A DSLR Camera Costume that works

So photographer Tyler Card, apparently has a lot of time on his hands and is looking to sweep costume contests throughout the land this halloween season with his fully functional camera costume.

It has it all, a built in LCD screen, built-in flash and working shutter release button. If that’s not enough he can wirelessly fire off his strobes to capture all the party action.

Here’s a look at the camera in action:

And here’s how it was made.

Nice job Tyler!

Once Upon by Heidi Lender

Once Upon by Heidi Lender

Heidi Lender has a fun and storied past, beginning as a child in the mid-sixties. After earning a BA from Cornell University she wrote and styled for various fashion magazines and traveled often to places like New York, London and Paris. After a long break (6 years)  in India studying yoga and finding her inner universe, she discovered her first digital SLR (2008) and left the words behind in favor of creating images like the ones from her amazing Once Upon Project.

In “Once Upon” she explores the wild and controlled personalities within herself and how fashion and design can mold the characters she creates. These headless self-portraits with all their color, texture and varied environments help her to express and illustrate who she is, where she’s been and where she is going. The anonymous nature of the images also helps you to imagine yourself as that character as well.

Be sure to check out the other amazing projects too from Heidi’s Site.

Jessica Heaps Photography

18-year-old Jessica Louise Heaps from Haworth, England, first got the photo bug around 2007 with the purchase of her first SLR. Now she’s aspiring to be a fashion and portrait photographer and is slowly but surely finding her way. She’s currently studying at Leeds College of Art and trying to document her life from behind the lens.

Enjoy a sampling of Jessica’s work and a brief interview.

Cameraluv: When will you complete your degree at Leeds?

Jessica Heaps: From the end of august I will be joining another 250 eager art students on the foundation course at LCA, so I will finish in may 2012

CL: I see that you said you are studying art & design, are you also studying photography there as well or are you primarily self taught?

JH: The course is a mixture of everything, including photography, but because it is so self taught and flexible I mostly use my photography to weave it into subjects such as fine art and fashion.

CL: What are some of your short term and long term goals for your photography?

JH: If I were to think big, I want to hit it with a fashion designer or a magazine editorial, working with the big ones in fashion. Thinking more reality, and small, I aim to grab leeds and to have people know me as ‘that really good photographer from yorkshire’.

CL: Has your work been published anywhere?

JH: The keighley news, my local newspaper. I guess it just goes to show how difficult it can be to get published!

CL: Who is your ideal client/ who do you want want to work for that you haven’t?

JH: In my dreams I would shoot for Vivienne Westwood, on crazy locations. Maybe the rockies or the middle of NYC.

CL: Do you have a favorite camera?

JH: Well, I have my canon 400d, but if I am honest my favourite cameras are disposable. I do realise how unprofessional and unreliable they are but I love that about them. To me the pictures they create say raw and young. They are REAL.

CL: What’s your most favorite subject to shoot now?

JH: My 7 year old sister. she has an essence of freedom and dainty-ness about her. She’s in most of my photos, actually.

CL: Do you have any favorite artists?

JH: Nirrimi and Rockie Nolan are my favourite young photographers, their images seem to brood on young souls and wild trips to forests and sunsets. They have done so well for their age, and they still have so much waiting for them

Wiissa Photography

We get inspired when we see people living life to the fullest and photo-duo Wiissa comprised of U.S.-Born Vanessa Hollander (17) and French-born Wilson Philippe (18) is doing just that. These two have beautifully captured their love for life, photography and each other on film. While still teenagers, the couple hasn’t been behind the lens too long, but after gifting each other film cameras on their birthday a few years ago, they haven’t stopped shooting each other, their friends and the world.

Here’s a look at a sampling of their work and keep scrolling for an interview with Wilson, one half of the talented photo-duo.

HERE’S THE CAMERALUV INTERVIEW WITH WILSON PHILIPPE, ONE HALF OF Wiissa.

Cameraluv: Where do you two call home?
Wilson Philippe: We live on a small island next to Miami.

CL: Where are some of the places you have been together?

WP: We’ve been to so many great places, including France, Mongolia, Switzerland, and Brazil.

CL: What are some of your short term and long term goals for your photography?

WP: Short term we’d love to be able to work and collaborate with creative people and long term making a career out of taking pictures would be pretty great.

CL: Who is your ideal client?

WP: We have many ideal clients such as Levi’s, Nasty Gal, Urban Outfitters, and our favorite band, The Strokes.

CL: Do you have some favorite cameras?

WP: We love our Canon AE1 & Pentax K1000.

CL: What’s your most favorite subject to shoot now?

WP: At the moment we shoot our friends and ourselves so I guess our favorite subjects are young people!

CL: Could you tell us a bit about what brought on the trip to Mongolia and who you went with?

WP: The trip was organized by my parents, they had this idea of going to Mongolia and we were lucky enough to be able to go with them!

CL: What was it like giving pictures to someone who had never seen themselves in print?

WP: It was a truly humbling experience, photographs are something modern society take for granted. The pictures had a huge impact on them, they kept coming back for more pictures and told all their friends who then came themselves! We even had a family dress up in traditional modern clothing. They were very thankful for what seemed like a small gesture.

CL: Did doing a project like this change how you look at the world?

WP: Definitely, we see the world in a completely new way now. Seeing how they live and how they can be perfectly happy with how little they have really makes you
rethink your outlook on things.

CL: Do you have any more trips/projects like this planned?

WP: We don’t have any planned yet but we would love to do more. I think it would be great if we could get help from The Impossible Project film company to help us pay for the trip. I’d love to go on many kinds of trips like these and make a book out of it, that would be really cool.

Tom Simmonds Photography

Tom is pretty much a self taught 22-year-old photographer from Brighton, England. He shot his first model just over a year ago (15-months to be exact) and is well on his way to creating lovely images. His shyness is subsiding and as you can tell he’s finding a home behind the lens of both his analogue cameras like the Canon A-1 and digital cameras like his newly acquired 5D MII.

Jobi Manson Photography

Jobi is a gifted lifestyle photographer who grew up in Annapolis, Maryland and always dreamt of the other coast. She started traveling and surfing at the age of 15 and now at 24, she calls Venice, CA home and has integrated herself nicely into the surf & skate culture of So Cal. She’s quite the world traveler, finding herself in Africa, Asia, Australia, the South Pacific, & Europe and more. The places most people only see in magazines, she sees first hand, even putting herself in the ocean with Great White sharks if that’s what it takes. That early yearning to smell the fresh sea breezes finds much of her work revolving around the golden light of California’s surf & sun.

And Then They Explode

While we here at Cameraluv think you should be shooting with and appreciating your cameras, we can’t help but love the beautiful high-speed images Staudinger + Franke have created by exploding a Polaroid and Eumig camera.
